Gravity Cycles Bike Fitting

BIKE FITTING AND ANALYSIS

Here at Gravity Cycles we know how important it is to enjoy riding your bike which-ever way that is and however that is. Whether it be for commuting, the odd sunny ride, a regular club outing or racing. Over the last few months we have invested in creating a little fit studio that will allow us to spend time with our clients helping them overcome that old ride injury or dial in their riding position to suit their goals.

Finding the right position can sometimes be a journey and each person will fit their bike differently or have different constraints and requirements. We will explore your riding position together to find the right fit for you!

Sometimes the term 'bike fitting' can be confusing, we offer 3 types of sessions and they can be separated as follows:

  1. Bike Sizing
  2. Bike Fitting
  3. Bike Fit Optimisation

We are offering introductory pricing on our Fitting and Optimisation sessions as we launch our new products over the next few months.

Bike Sizing

You have an old bike, or no bike at all, and you are keen to start the process of purchasing a new bike or bike-frame from scratch, We can help you get measured up correctly so that you are able to order the right size frame for your height, weight and riding style. There are many various ways of doing this but we are certain that we can get you started off on the right foot. We also have various tools that allow us to use your measurements and variables to suggest bikes or frames that might be suited to you. This is particularly useful if you have no idea where to start and are new to the world of cycling.

Give us a call or email us so we can set up a time for you to come and get sized up for a new bike or custom frame. We will set aside 40 minutes, although it may not take this long, to talk through what your needs are for your bicycle and then take some key measurements which will aid us in guiding you towards the right sized frame. We will record the measurements for you and email them to you with our recommendations after the sizing process.

The cost of a sizing is £45.

If you end up purchasing one of our frames for a custom build within a month of your sizing, we will refund the cost against your build and purchase.

You do not need to be in your cycling kit for this sizing session, however wearing garments that allow us to measure your limbs appropriately is recommended. We will ask you to remove footwear for certain measurements.

Bike Fitting

Once you have your new bike, or an existing bike that you want to make sure you are comfortable on and riding efficiently, we get you and your bike into the studio and set-up on the trainer. We then take a good look at you pedalling on your bike and how your arms, legs and contact points sit and move around the bike and frame. We use various tools to capture your motion in 3D and the tools help us analyse your riding position and style. We are then able to make suggestions and help you find a position that suits you and your goals as well as making sure you are as comfortable as possible. This may involve looking at the position of various components on your bike and possibly adjusting elements like your cleats and pedal position, the width of your handle-bars, length of your stem or the position of your saddle.

These sessions also go a long way to aiding injury prevention and in some cases we may see how your riding position may be changed to alleviate pain or discomfort.

Why might you choose to have a bike fitting? There are various reasons why we think a bike fitting would be useful and have listed some of these below. These are by no means definitive but will help in giving you an idea as to the benefits of getting a guided and proper fitting on YOUR bike.

 1. You might be suffering with an injury or pain and discomfort while riding. Taking a look at your position can help assess if there are changes that could be made in order to help.
 2. You might have purchased a new bike and are not sure what the best set-up for you might be. A bike fit can get you started in the right position which can aid in preventing long term injury or discomfort.
 3. You might want to change some aspects of your bike or its components. We can help guide you towards those that might be best suited to you and your riding goals.

In a Bike Fitting session we will take some time to look at all the ways you make contact with your bike and how your riding goals might be achieved or made possible through aspects of a bike fit. We look at the following key areas:

 - Cleat and Pedal Positioning
 - Knee tracking
 - Saddle Choice and Comfort
 - Your X & Y co-ordinates (where your saddle is best placed and the reach of your bars and stem as well as the width of your bars)

These tests are done with you in your cycling kit and cycling shoes so we can get the best understanding of you on your bike. You will be pedalling and making an effort at times, as being warmed up and pedalling comfortably will help us get a true picture of how you sit on and interact with your bike in a dynamic manner. You will receive an email questionnaire from us a few days before your fit. We ask that you provide as much detail as you can so that we can get as detailed a picture of your riding history, goals and clearly understand your expectations of the fitting so that we can maximise our time together.

A typical Bike Fitting session will last for between 2 - 3 hours.
The cost of a Bike Fitting session is £180

Bike Fit Optimisation

For some people riding their bikes goes one step further than just being comfortable. Riding their bikes forms part of competition and for them, optimisation for speed and time savings or aerodynamics is key. For optimisation we look at performing a fit, if required, and then using our 3D Aero technology we can start to simulate how your position can be optimised or changed to give you savings or gains. We look at your frontal area and how aerodynamically we can potentially make this smaller or better suited to 'cheating' the air you need to cut through. We compare this to your Bike Fit profile and the aim is to get you riding in a position that gives you the best gains possible BUT is still sustainable and is not going to cause you injury or undue fatigue.

An optimisation session can form part of a Bike Fitting or can be done as a stand-alone session if you already had a recent bike fit.

If you are combining a Fit Optimisation session with a Bike Fitting we will allow for an extra 50 - 90 minutes and the added cost is £80

If you are having a Bike Fit Optimisation as a stand-alone session we will set aside between 90 min - 2 hours and the cost for the session is £120
